simulation@rand.com | RandSIM.com | 888.483.0674 Ansys HFSS offers a variety of features to assist with modeling connectors: • Optimization tool. This allows designers to run a parametric setup and specify different variables. Scans can be used to analyze PCB materials, geometry, placement, thickness, and more. • Impedance graph. This identifies which impedance is best suited for the designer's requirements. • Electric field analysis. This shows how fields move across a board, as well as how signals move through traces. • Crosstalk. This is important when looking at connectors and ensuring that routing across the board is correct. Mastering 5G Technology with Ansys Solutions Figure 4: Modeling Connectors and PCBs with HFSS Using Simulation to Improve 5G Antenna Design and Performance When it comes to 5G mobile networks, antennas are essential for wireless communication between devices. Within the 5G system, there are two categories of operating frequencies: 5G NR (New Radio) This frequency range for connected devices has been used for several years. It operates between 2GHz and 6GHz. 5G mmWave This operating frequency range is between 24GHz and 40GHz. 5G mmWave introduces additional antenna design considerations. mmWave antennas are often much more directional and advanced. Other issues are heat and the ability to beam steer antennas.
