SIwave offers multiple scanners and simulations to identify signal integrity problems and highlight where PCB
designs should be reevaluated. For example:
• Impedance and crosstalk scanners. These tools scan all single and differentially routed traces and overlay a
color map, providing a visual representation of the impedance or crosstalk at each point.
• S-parameters. By looking at insertion loss and return loss, designers can determine whether their PCBs meet
specific requirements.
• Eye diagram analysis. This generates insights into channel compliance and helps determine the cause of
data-related failures, such as lost data packets or bit errors.

2) Addressing PCB Power Integrity
As data rates increase, EMI becomes a bigger concern. Ansys SIwave helps PCB designers evaluate power
integrity in a variety of ways.
• Resonant modes. This functionality visualizes different frequencies and identifies where high voltages occur.
• DCIR simulation. This can create a power map across the PCB, showing where high power could affect thermal
or signal integrity. The DCIR tool also includes maps of voltage, current vectors, and via current density.
• Z-parameters. These show frequency versus impedance, the resonances and impedance spectrum, and the
voltage ripple based on the current.
