OVERVIEW In Ansys 2024 R1, the Fluids product line continues to deliver critical enhancements that improve solver performance, increase end-user productivity, and provide new capabilities for complex applications. Usability improvements for Ansys Fluent include the newly launched Fluent Web UI, which is a light client application that allows users to connect to remotely running jobs via a web browser. The newly launched Ansys BladeBuilder will increase user productivity and efficiency by automating low- and high-fidelity 3D CAD creation for turbomachinery, seamlessly integrating with Ansys TurboGrid for automated meshing. Increased solver enhancements—including new capabilities for the Fluent GPU Solver—continue to expand the range of applications that can benefit from the exceptional performance of the GPU Solver. RELEASE HIGHLIGHTS Ansys Fluent • Fluent Web Interface: A new Fluent web-based UI is now available that allows users to remotely access their simulations via a web browser. The Web UI is a modernized, yet familiar interface that allows users to start, stop and pause solver jobs to evaluate results in real-time as calculations are being run. The Fluent Web UI also supports multiple connections from different browsers or machines and is available for solution controls, monitoring and post-processing. • GPU Development and Capabilities Expansion: In 24 R1, new physics and models are available within the Fluent GPU solver. New models and capabilities include discrete phase model (DPM), radiation models, sliding mesh and non-conformal interfaces, beta support for Python-based user defined functions (UDF), coupled solver support, and stiff chemistry solver support for combustion applications. For increased efficiency, the CPU lightweight set-up mode is now available to reduce CPU memory usage before solving on GPUs. Finally, the GPU Solver now has beta support for AMD GPUs in addition to previously supported NVIDIA hardware. • PyFluent: PyFluent updates include an improved workflow interface for a cleaner and more efficient programming style, new API availability to access and modify volumetric solution data, and usability improvements of field-data APIs with a purpose-designed interface for easier interpretation. • Fluent for Aerospace Applications– Updates within Fluent for aerospace applications include accuracy improvements to the two-temperature equation model for high-speed flight regimes that now match better with measured data. The Virtual Blade Model (VBM), widely used for rotorcraft and urban air mobility applications, now includes additional outputs, including Xp-force and Yp-force. Fluent's dedicated "Aero" workspace for external aero applications includes improved predictions of aerodynamic coefficients across low- and high-speed flight regimes. Finally, a complete aeromechanics workflow is now available for blade flutter using mode shapes from Ansys Mechanical. • AI/ML: Turbulence model tuning with AI/ML is now available with an Ansys Fluids AI+ license. The adjoint solver and AI/ML are used to calibrate GEKO coefficients against a high-fidelity LES solution, yielding LES-level accuracy at a RANS computational cost.
