OVERVIEW Ansys Lumerical continues to push the innovation envelope to deliver accurate, high-performance simulation capabilities for photonic designers. The 2023 R2 release delivers powerful capabilities that speed time to result, improve simulation accuracy, and expand interoperability with other Ansys products. HPC, Cloud and User Interface • The new Express Mode in FDTD enables users to run simulations with NVidia GPU with the necessary capabilities for applications such as PIC components and metasurfaces. • Python can run Lumerical tools installed in a different machine, via the new Remotable Python API. • The new Lumerical dark theme (BETA) reduces eye strain and fatigue in low-light environments. Nano to Macro-scale Optics for AR/VR, Metalens, Imaging, and Display Applications • Users can easily get started with real simulation examples and product trials via the Optics Launcher, now available in all three Ansys Optics product families (Lumerical, Speos and Zemax OpticStudio). • The CMOS sensor camera workflow with Speos Sensor System (SSS) Exporter supports more general pixel architectures (e.g., quad pixels) and includes marginal rays in the quantum efficiency calculation. • The metalens workflow has been improved with more efficient E-field data and GDS layout extraction from Lumerical tools, as well as a new scattering model for ray tracing in Zemax OpticStudio. Photonics Multiphysics Simulation • RCWA solver improvements include support for non-orthogonal unit cell and field profile monitor. • Enhancements for component simulation of opto-electronic devices include: diagonal anisotropy in permittivity in CHARGE, variational method for excitons and integrated MQW, CHARGE and HEAT. • MQW and RCWA solvers are now available with the Lumerical connector in OptiSLang. Photonic Integrated Circuit and Quantum Photonic Circuit Simulation • New nonlinear waveguide primitive (SHG Waveguide) in INTERCONNECT to model second-harmonic generation in nonlinear waveguides such as waveguides made from LiNbO 3 . • TWLM supports new input formats for gain compression factor and grating chirp coefficients. • Faster qINTERCONNECT engine can handle double the number of channels or frequencies with the same simulation run time. Enhanced support for nonlinear quantum photonic sources. Electronic Photonic Design Automation • CML Compiler has a new GUI, improved data structure, and enhanced Verilog-A modeling capabilities. • Ansys Photonic Verilog-A models now support SPECTRE 21. • Virtuoso-INTERCONNECT co-simulation supports hierarchical, and parameter-dependent circuits. • Layer Builder supports Boolean operations for both geometry and doping layers. The 'Layout Geometry Wizard' is now available in the FE IDE. Photonics Products 2023 R2 Update
