the Case for Ansys Simulation Software Imagine all the time and money that you would save if every device taken to the test lab passed on the first try. Now, think about how much more time your engineers would have to spend on driving innovation, managing complexity, lowering cycle times, reducing costs, increasing quality, and reducing risk. That's what electromagnetic simulation software can deliver. Like most solutions, not all simulation tools are created equal. Ansys offers the most accurate, robust, and complete electromagnetic simulation software on the market today. The company has years of experience developing advanced methods and emerging technology to enhance the power of physics-based engineering simulation, and it invests tremendous R&D funds every year into improving its technology. You can count on Ansys to meet your needs today, tomorrow, and long into the future. For EMC applications, there are two Ansys tools leveraged most often: SIwave EMI scanner, which checks the PCB design for potential trouble spots, and HFSS, which is capable of simulating real-life EMC test scenarios based on standards outlined by regulatory bodies. 1. Siwave / EMi Scanner – Provides insight into common board-level EMI violations, best-practices and analysis of signal integrity. Decrease the time spent manually reviewing PCBs for compliance periodically throughout the board development by using the EMI Scanner to check designs for violations of important EMI rules: a. Signal nets (including differential pairs) b. Power/Ground planes c. Vias d. Decoupling capacitors e. In addition to the EMI Scanner, SIwave provides the capability of performing complete signal and power integrity analysis to diagnose the root cause of these EMI issues and provide the insight needed to make informed design modifications. 2. hFSS Electronics Desktop – A comprehensive platform that enables electrical engineers to design and simulate various electrical, electronic and electromagnetic components, devices and systems. Efficiently manage complex projects that require several different analysis tools to predict the operation of their electronic products. Use the Electronics Desktop platform to access Ansys HFSS, which simulates 3D full-wave electromagnetic fields: a. Import ECAD/MCAD designs directly b. Perform EMC test scenarios for Radiated/Conducted Emissions, Radiated Immunity, SAR, and other EMC industry standards c. Incorporate PCB assembly and wire harnesses into the EMC test environment d. Obtain simulated test data in the same format as if it were performed at a certified lab. There are also several other useful simulation tools available within the Electronics Desktop environment that are highly beneficial for other common electrical engineering challenges: ► Ansys Maxwell – Solves static, frequency-domain and time-varying electromagnetic and electric fields ► Ansys Q3D Extractor – Provides 2D and 3D parasitic extraction for engineers designing electronic packaging and power electronic equipment ► Ansys Icepak – Predicts airflow, temperature and head transfer in IC packages, PCBs, electronic assemblies/ enclosures, power electronics, and more.
