The Ansys simulation process – HFSS software with SBR+ will solve the antenna's radiated far-fields and characterize its performance. Step 1 – Simulate the antenna's free-space performance with HFSS: ► Determine the radiation pattern (or antenna pattern or far-field pattern) ► Ensure the antenna will operate within the requirements of the base station ► Determine gain and directionality of the antenna ► Understand the frequency and bandwidth of the antenna Step 2 – Develop a model of the stadium and assign materials and boundaries: ► Metallic structures - Perfect E boundary assignments ► Absorbing materials - Fresnel (SBR+) boundary assignments ► Other material - Layered Impedance boundary assignments Step 3 – Place the antennas in desired locations within the stadium Step 4 – Convert the antenna radiation pattern into individual rays and using visual ray tracing with SBR+, note how those rays propagate through the environment and reflect or transmit off different materials. Each color represents the bounce number for a given ray and allows you to observe the RF propagation path. Step 5 – Identify locations of dense or underperforming signal strengths, make adjustments (change locations, add more antennas, or change the type of antennas), and simulate again. Repeat until you achieve sufficient coverage. For a deeper dive and a demonstration, contact Rand Simulation, an Ansys Certified Elite Channel Partner providing engineering simulation software, consultation services, training, and support.
